Arizona Governor Jan Brewer-A Klingon Warrior in the Making.

I nominate the embattled governor of Arizona Jan Brewer as one of my new ‘Klingon Warriors’ in American politics this year.  She signed legislation authorizing local law-enforcement agencies to identify illegal aliens.
.
My concept of American Klingons is really an outgrowth of the old 20th century of “Just grow a backbone.”  IF you are old enough to remember that phrase (or a variation there of), then you know that politics as usual are not going to cut it in 2010!  One must make or take the extra step this year to save the nation.
.
To be a American Klingon warrior in American politics in the 21st century, one must be willing to put one’s political career/future on the line to do what is right.
.
Even if your popularity in the polls tanks.  Even if the President of the United States mock you and the bill that you sign to protect your citizens from an invasion of illegal human beings crossing a border that the Federal government is responsible for-but chooses to ignore for political reasons.
.
A border that lets-among some good people, a lot more bad people in the form of coyotes (human traders) drug runners, even some Mexican military troops supposedly after the previous two groups of human scum.  A border where American citizens are becoming afraid of what else is going to fall on their heads.  And the Federal government that  ’promises’ that the virtual fence will be online (eventually), and that Predator drones will help in closing the border.  Only if there is enough bad media taking place that they have to say something to make it appear like that they area actually doing something.
.
And that is why Jan Brewer and the Arizona  legislature deserve praise for the bold step that they took.
